Dr. Juliana Silveira dos Santos

I’m a researcher in spatial ecology at INMA (Instituto Nacional da Mata Atlântica) in Santa Teresa, ES, Brazil. My research focuses on landscape ecology applied to agricultural landscapes and the use of remote sensing data and GIS tools for biodiversity conservation. I’m also co-leader of the GEODABI Lab (Laboratório de Geoprocessamento, Sensoriamento Remoto e Análise de Dados de Biodiversidade), created at INMA in 2025 GEODABI

Academic Background

  • 🎓 PhD in Remote Sensing at National Institute for Space Research (INPE, Brazil) – 2014; Internship at Carleton University (CA)
  • 🎓 Master’s in Remote Sensing at Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (CEPSRM/UFRGS, Brazil) – 2010; Internship at INPE
  • 🎓 Bachelor’s in Agricultural Technology at State University of Rio Grande do Sul (UERGS, Brazil) – 2007

About Me

After finishing my PhD, I held postdoctoral positions (2014-2025) at different universities in Brazil and abroad (Oregon State University, US and Bologna University, IT). In recent years, I have collaborated on Long-Term Ecological Research projects with LEEC Lab and Collevatti Lab. Together with these research groups, I have published manuscripts about landscape ecology, biodiversity conservation, and landscape genetics in the Atlantic Forest and Cerrado.

I have supervised master’s and PhD students in Brazil and have taught courses such as Remote Sensing and GIS applied to Ecology, and Landscape Ecology. My current research interests include spatial corridor modeling, defining priority areas for conservation and restoration, uncovering biodiversity patterns using remote sensing data, and prioritizing climate refuge areas based on landscape connectivity measures.

I’m always excited to collaborate with researchers and projects from anywhere. Feel free to reach out!
